[Cedarclaw]
Cedar - for his fur
Claw - for his skill
[Clan: Rootclan] [Rank: Warrior/Deputy]
[56 moons] [Male] [Heterosexual Stoatwhisker]
[Description]
Semi-cobby, ginger, short-hair, mackerel tabby, with white spotting and deep copper orange eyes.
[Appearance]
His body is compact and heavy-set with a dense short-hair coat and a tail a bit shorter than most. His pelt is half orange and white, with thin mackerel tabby stripes of darker ginger fur. He has small slightly folded ears at the crown of his very round head, and large soulful oval eyes with a deep copper orange color. Soft white fur covers his belly, legs and chest, stretching up along his neck to his muzzle and coming to a point just above his eyes. His legs are a little on the short side but they are thick with muscle. His large fuzzy paws have short yet powerful clear claws, and an extra toe. There's a pink nose at the tip of his short broad muzzle, with long white whiskers on either side. When he's relaxed he appears to be a sweet, gentle, empathetic tom, but when provoked all of that seems to change... and he looks like a fierce feline with a burning glare and an imposing presence.
[Personality]
Favorite food: mice
He carries a strong faith in Starclan, though his resolve in them may waver at the worst of times he will never doubt his brother's spirit. His courage seems limitless, and may sometimes come across as reckless, but he always acts with theo clans best interest in mind and he is humble enough to accept if he had done anything wrong. He can be very expressive, able to visually convey his emotions clearly and effectively, but he is also able to mask his emotions very well whenever he feels the need to. He might not be as cunning or crafty as some, but he is knowledgeable, insightful and sharp; he can retain a great deal of information but he will only care to remember what he deems to be important to him. His sense of justice is tightly tied with the warrior code, and he bases his morals on this along with his past experiences. Following the belief that actions speak louder than words, he might act on his instincts first and ask questions later. When facing threats he will do so with determination and perseverance, but he will never willingly allow his clanmates to get themselves into a dangerous situation, and will risk his own life for them if he has to. He will not hesitate when defending his clanmates and to him there is no other option, but he also sees no shame in retreating and he tries to teach that to those around him. He savors the time when he can be carefree and relaxed, but fate is usually not so kind to him. He is understanding and easy to work with many different types of cats; he is adaptive and knows when to use his strengths to support others. He will always be suspicious to those outside of his clan but he is also willing to give trust when the other party proves themselves worthy of it. He secretly holds the fear that he will become a disappointment to his clan and is also afraid to be alone forever. He is not very fast and is not very graceful, but he is strong and has a great deal of endurance. Climbing can be especially challenging for him. He seems to be unconditionally forgiving to his family and close friends, but can easily hold grudges toward anyone else and will even be unforgiving to a certain extent. There is no prey he seems unwilling to eat, which will sometimes end him in the medicine den with an upset stomach. Other then cats who rub him the wrong way, nothing seems to annoy him and there is very few things that he dislikes. He will typically sleep on his back and will sometimes snore when he is in a particularly deep sleep.
[History]
Heritage: When Goldenfur was an apprentice, she was very talented yet rebellious in nature, something she had never lost even when she became a Warrior. She was a charming she-cat, but her personality often conflicted with many other cats. It took an easy-going yet, mature tom with a relaxed nature to win her over. She found a mate in another apprentice, Russetpaw (Russetfur), after becoming enraptured by his casual courting. However, she had never intended to have kits at such a young age and was even more concerned when she realized she would give birth to them in Leaf-fall or even as late as Leafbare.
Kithood: Cedarkit and his brother, Rowankit, were born into Rootclan with their mother Goldenpaw (Goldenfur). They were a little small and not as healthy as the Medicine Cat would have liked, but it was written off as normal since it was their young mother's first litter, along with the fact that the kits were born in the middle of Leaf-fall. The were instructed to keep a close eye on them. Their father, Russetpaw (Russetfur), was devoted to his mate and made sure to look after her and their kits; with his hard work and dedication he ensured that her milk was rich. Together they worked hard for their kits and encouraged them to try harder every day. While they both tried to complete the last of their apprentice training. Cedarkit was weaned early, but Rowankit had a hard time with it and sometimes ended up getting sick. He took it upon himself to look after his brother and he worked to support him as best as he could; but his young spirited nature developed a sort of ego and he didn't notice that Rowankit supported him just as much as he did. He quickly caught up to his expected size and it gave him a strong sense of pride that pushed him into wanted to try even harder to improve. He and his brother watched the Warriors and Apprentices and together they invented their own training regiment, with help from their uncle Maplestorm every now and then. Cedarkit's confidence grew and despite his brother's pleads, he decided to sneak out of camp; and his brother, forever loyal, went with them. They had been missing for quite some time, somehow able to avoid detection, but when they were finally found and brought back they were severely punished. They dared not to mentioned their near-death experiences, afraid they would get in more trouble if they did, and they pushed those memories to the back of their minds. Their apprentice ceremony was delayed by 4 moons and they were given strict rules to follow. During this time Cedarkit's resentment eventually melted away and he became humbled.
Early-Moons: Cedarpaw and Rowanpaw had grown even closer then any cat thought possible, to the point when it seemed they could read each other's thoughts. They were loyal and devoted to one another, and they extended this to their denmates as well, proving to be more mature then their age would have them believe. Though Cedarpaw was still adventurous, rambunctious, and mischievous; they games and pranks he enjoyed, though harmless, still landed the two with more chores and harsher lessons. It wasn't long after they were made into apprentices when a terrible drought stretched over the lands. Rootclan was fairing better then most and had decided to use this chance to take back the land they lost seasons ago. Cedarclaw knew of their history but since he wasn't alive at the time of the White Stage Truce, he didn't feel the bitterness or sting it left on his clan... but what he did know, was that he wanted to help take back the land that was originally theirs. To this day he can still remember when they came out of the drought victorious. As an apprentice, he quickly formed a great deal of friendships and healthy rivalries among the other apprentices, and had two best friends among them. Cedarpaw started to show an indifferent and casual approach; not seeming to take his training seriously. It was decided to give him a strict mentor who was the uncompromising sort, and they quickly whipped Cedarpaw into shape. It was at this time that his relationships with others deepened, and he noticed his feelings for one of his best friends was very different. He struggled to understand what he was feeling for Stoatpaw, but he didn't let it change the way he was around him... or so he thought. Soon he noticed that he was getting more affectionate with Stoatpaw, but it still took him a while before he realized he was attracted to his dear friend. Embarrassed and worried about what that could mean he still approached Stoatpaw and expressed his feelings to him. It was mutual. The two started acting like love-struck sparrows, but they were embarrassed to reveal their relationship to their clan and started to create secret messages, codes and signals; and sometimes even sneaking away at night to spend time alone together.
First-Season: Then one day, in the middle of Leafbare, his brother went missing during a blizzard. Tragically, the cold had taken Rowanpaw's life, and Cedarpaw was devastated. Stoatpaw's support for him, revealed the nature of their bond, and Goldenfur was troubled by this. It looked like it would be a while before he recovered from the lost of his brother, and this effected his training, but after about a moon had passed he suddenly bounced back and was cheerfully completing his training with great enthusiasm and energy. Goldenfur confronted Cedarpaw about his relationship with a tom and urged him to at least consider a she-cat to bare him kits. Cedarpaw decided not to think about what his mother had said and instead focused on his duties. One day he and his mentor were faced with a young coyote and the two fought it off the clan's territory, but not without injuries. While Cedarpaw was recovering he was given his warrior name: Cedarclaw. His new responsibilities and status encouraged him to devote himself to his clan more then ever. It also gave him the courage to stand up to his mother and tell her that he had no interest in being with a she-cat. He also outgrew his embarrassment in taking a mate, and with his strengthened courage and maturity, he no longer held back in showing his affection to Stoatwhisker while among their clanmates. He enjoyed developing bonds with his fellow warriors and worked very hard to prove he was worthy of his warrior name. He would challenge himself and his rivals, but always made time for Stoatwhisker.
Seasons Past: As the seasons stretched on he started to work toward the goal of getting an apprentice of his own. He put himself in situations to be able to help his clanmates, improve himself, and show himself as a capable warrior. He even strived to strengthen areas where his skill was lacking. When his uncle retired to the Elder's den, he would often offer his help in training the kits and young apprentices; this usually resulted in him being an example for his uncle to demonstrate on, or serving as an obstacle during practices, and sometimes... his uncle would make him the target of many challenges and he would find his food being stolen away by young apprentices and his fur getting ripped out by older kits for some scavenger hunt or something. He must've left a good impression for he was given an apprentice to train when he was 27 moons old. He put his whole soul into training Chervilpaw, and was determined to show that making him a mentor was not be a mistake. He treated his apprentice as if they were family, and soon their bond developed to that just that. The connection they had, seemed to make the training far more effective and both mentor and apprentice were reflecting their amazing progress. His new role as mentor also possessed him to become more involved in the clan's politics. He was proud when Chervilcloud was made a warrior, and was overjoyed to have his former apprentice as his denmate. Something about him must have stood out, for when the former Deputy left to join Starclan, he was chosen to take their place. Not days after he was made deputy did his mother again approach him and once more asked him to consider fathering kits. Remembering his time as a mentor and thinking about his brother's death... his mothers words weighed heavy on his mind and he finally caved and approached his mate about it. However, the two toms ended up fighting, and it seemed they had broken it off. Depressed and confused, Cedarclaw found himself meeting with a she-cat by chance. The two rekindled a friendship they had as apprentices and after a short time had passed she offered to bare his kits. Cedarclaw is split in many different directions, for he had wanted to be a father when he was younger but he desperately missed Stoatwhisker. He used his Deputy tasks to keep him busy but as the arrival of his kits grow closer and closer, his feelings become more and more difficult to deal with, and though he hasn't let it effect his job it was becoming clear to the Queen that it would effect him as a future father and she would have none of that.
