Rootclan
The middle clan of three, Rootclan is the most isolated of all of them, both physically and politically. They have chosen so in order to keep what they believe is the pure version of the warrior code, untainted by Waveclan relaxation of rules or the foreign blood and chaos of Ferryclan. Rootclan likes to cultivate a strong united image, and their cats are known for physical prowess and impressive confidence. They are often on the bigger side and thus are more effective in battle, and they indeed have the highest likelihood of encountering predators than either of the other clans. Unlike the other clans, their population is diminishing due to inbreeding and the lack of a wider genetic pool. While this means that certain beautiful pelts are more likely to appear, it also means that stubborn Rootclan will soon be forced to re-evaluate its strategy and beliefs, lest they be in danger of dying out.
Culture
Rootclan's demeanor is usually one of intense passion, as the clan cultivates fierce loyalty but also other fierce emotion from wrath, to sorrow, to kindness. Rootclan cats are not known for being halfway, and throw themselves into every action wholeheartedly. As such -Heart cats are actually few and far in between, and the suffix is usually awarded to a cat within the clan which has a differing opinion and belief which they staunchly hold, but which does not interfere with clan running. They value cats who are willing to stand up for themselves, as they once stood up to Waveclan. That said, most cats are of a general similar temperament and belief system.
Their territory is the most dense, and cats have to have a general knowledge of how to climb. The trees are tall and the foliage thick, but there are also rocky spots, especially along the river and lakeside which can be slippery. Usually though the biggest threat they will have while hunting is not the terrain itself, but predators. Squadrons of warriors will be the ones to mark the borders and track down any dangerous scents they find. These squadrons usually include a tracker if available. -Nose cats are highly prized in this clan as a result.
Due to being in the thick of a forest, it makes most sense that Rootclan would be the one to follow the canon way of seasons, from Leafbare, to Newleaf, to Greenleaf, to Leaf-fall. Their holidays follow the same rhythm, with their holidays being the Bloom, the Tournament, and the Hunt, more information on these holidays can be found here.
Rootclan is the most exclusive clan, and as mentioned before, they are struggling to produce enough kits to form a solid new generation. Their beliefs that outsiders are not dedicated enough (in the case of Waveclan) or not legitimately chosen by Starclan (in the case of Ferryclan) lead to hostilities, particularly with the latter. This reclusive clan does not even allow outsiders and chases them off clan land without any discussion, unless they are queens with kits (and sometimes even then only until they are old enough to fend for themselves). Despite the complicated genealogies which Rootclan medicine cats are asked to keep track of, even they realize the danger of a completely isolationist policy, which has led to some division in the clan.
Religiously most of Rootclan are truly and even zealously devoted to Starclan, with the strength of their beliefs ingrained in them by their mothers at a young age. They can easily recite the code and will even engage in vigorous debates over the smallest connotations of the code and clan law, and the most studious will often challenge cats from the other two clans, although the other clans usually find the conversations more amusing or annoying than impacting their own beliefs. Their warriors ceremony and their connection to Starclan comes from their bloodprint, where each new warrior will cut their own paw on a jagged stone and leave a bloody paw print beside the ones of their ancestors in an old cave near camp. By leaving their own blood behind they pledge their life-force to the clan and to the code. Often when Rootclan warriors find that they cannot make it to Starclan, they manifest in the area around their bloodprint, where their tether to the physical plane is until they can resolve whatever kept them from Starclan.
