Rules
Disclaimer:
- By Proboards terms of service, you must be at least 13 years old to register for a forum, and so we ask that all our members follow this rule. Whether or not you believe yourself to be more mature than the average 13 year old, this is the law, and should it be broken, our website could be closed.
Ratings and Regulations:
- Swearing is tolerated, however human swears should only be used by Ferryclan cats, as cats from the other clans will have had no contact with them, or will shun the words due to their connection to humans. However, feel free to create clan-unique swears, or use ones from canon.
- We do not condone sexually explicit material in any way shape or form. In your roleplays please fade to black or take it to PMs if you feel its absolutely necessary. Anything pertaining to real life forms of this content will mean your account is immediately deleted, we do not have to warn you.
- As many of us are on the older side of the roleplaying spectrum, our writing will be darker, grittier, more literate, and more literal. Our writing may contain darker themes and may include some triggers when it comes to violence. If something may be on the mature side, please make an effort to make the thread or post with an M warning. That said, we do not condone explicit gore, just be sure to moderate it.
General Rules:
- We are a one account per person roleplay.
- A major component of a well functioning site is respect. We ask that you respect not only the staff but your fellow roleplayers as well, so as to make this a healthy and friendly environment. Please try to resolve your conflicts over PM, and contact staff if necessary. Please keep it away from the cbox and threads.
- Staff reserves the right to impose bans for any breaking of rules.
- We understand how busy life can be, and because of that we are flexible when it comes to activity. That being said, we hope that you can be as active as possible. Please be conscious of your own time commitments, as well as your priorities. If you have a lot to do in real life, we understand! However, try not to accumulate too many characters or threads than you can handle. For normal characters, activity checks will be held every two months.
- High Position characters will be held to higher accountability. High Positions must have at least one thread a month (unless due notice of a required hiatus is received, and a stand in is appointed). This is to ensure that those who have the most authority and responsibility within a clan are capable of doing their jobs. Each High position has three strikes before their character is deposed.
- Any accounts which have registered but not posted within two weeks will be deleted.
Characters
- Currently we do not have a character limit, however if it seems that there is a large influx of characters which are flooding the site, we may impose one in the future.
- This thread contains the character form as well as in depth rules and a guide to creating your character.
- We abide by genetically correct and realistic pelt designs. While this may seem harsh, it is not at all unyielding, in fact it can be far more diverse than you might think! Our guide to genetics contains not only charts for you to use as a guide but also references and examples.
- While we are aware that there are anomalies of genetics, such as chimeras, male torties, ojos azules, and albinos, these unnatural characters may only be created if a slot is purchased at the site store, or if given as a prize in a contest or challenge.
- Unless specified either through plot, or through a Starclan bond unique to leaders, full medicine cats, and guardians, your character may not have supernatural powers of any kind.
- Unlike most sites, we do indeed have spirits and manifested Starclan cats, however these have rules of their own, addressed in our guide to the Starclan which our site subscribes to. These characters may only be created as either bought through the site store, or as a prize for a contest or challenge.
- Certain ranks require specific threads to be able to achieve a certain rank, or if you are trying out for a high rank (after the initial draft at opening) you must be aware of certain abilities and duties you must complete. These rules can be found be found in the High Ranks and Apprentices thread.
- In order to ensure that clan populations are not scarce and limited, we have a system of NPCs, which comprises of living family members of played characters, past characters who were retained despite a player's inactivity, and occasionally generated kits from NPC couples. All NPCs that are not past played characters should be considered available for adoption, and if a player who is leaving desires to put their characters up for adoption, these NPCs can be adopted as well. Occasionally a player will adopt out an NPC to someone else, but those cats may revert to NPCs. It is up to the owner of the played family member whether they will adopt out the NPC once again or not.
- NPC's can be controlled either by the active family members they are attached to, or by the leader of a thread (if they are assigned on patrol). They may be mentioned casually in passing as well by anyone, but only the very basic dialogue and actions.
- As for the creation of litters of kits, they have their own separate rule sheet, as well as what threads are required to request a litter. These rules are filed under the Litter Request form.
Roleplaying Rules
- Our website has a 150 word count per post minimum. While this may seem difficult for some, it is truly only about a paragraph. This minimum is to allow content for other users to be able to reply to, as well as a chance to be able to explore inner character development of emotions and personality through thoughts, dialogue, and body language. Should you find this minimum difficult, an admin is willing to assign a mentor to help improve your roleplaying skills, or point you in the direction of resources to help you improve on your own.
- In order to diminish confusion in threads, please keep to a Posting order. This is the order in which each character was posted to start with. While this can be frustrating when people dont reply, it is necessary to keep the coherence of the thread. It is best to keep a thread to at most four or five characters, this way there will be less confusion and waiting. The only time when Post Order is not applicable is in reaction to clan meetings and announcements, but this only includes one or two reaction posts per character. If characters would like to start a conversation or interaction, please post a separate thread so as not to muddle with the purpose of the original thread.
- We do not accept any godmodding/powerplaying/metagaming here. This means your character cannot know more than it has been told, it cannot read another cat's mind, you cannot take control of another person's character, nor can you automatically hit or kill another cat.
- When starting a thread, make sure to post the date at the top. You can see the calendar here as well as at the top of the home page. You may post threads up until the current calendar day, but not any after that. This is to allow for threads which you intend to be in the past. All threads must be time/day stamped at the top of the first post on the thread. The time system also affects aging, and aging up will occur at the beginning of every new seasonal cycle/calendar.
- In an attempt to introduce a coherent but unique battle system, we have included elements from traditional tabletop rpgs. This system is explained in the on Battles and Challenges thread.
- Due to the propensity of people creating certain characters (physically disabled, etc) some attributes will only be available through the store or prizes in contests and challenges. Bans will be created if certain cats within a clan (too many apprentices, too many females, etc) are too abundant, until the numbers can be leveled out.
Images
- A recent controversy around the internet is the circulation of images that have not been credited; therefore, we will have something of a stricter policy. You may only use images of cats that are stock (such as from flickr and other stock sites), and any art must be credited to the artist AND permission must be had from them. To ensure this we ask that you link to the artist and the artwork, and credit the artist. If you wish to use a base, then you must link the maker of the base.
- This precaution is mostly because of the fact that many artists will be frustrated (and rightly so) when they find their artwork distributed without their knowledge. Respect the artist and photographer, and don’t claim something as yours without permission.
