This thread is an explanation of the ranks which are unique to this site, which you have seen mentioned in several areas.
The three ranks which we have created specifically for this site, include the Guardians, the Skywatcher, and the Head Queen.
Guardians
The entire clan system in our lore, is based on the specific burial rituals and the protection of the cat's remains. As a result, the clans appointed Guardians, who would perform these burial rituals and protect the burial grounds from predators, other cats, and malevolent spirits.
To do so, Starclan granted them unique abilities through a bond with a Starclan spirit, which enhanced their bodies and allowed them to see on the spiritual plane. However, this forced them to be separate from the clans. They could take no mate, they could not take any specific clan's side in a skirmish. They were impartial protectors of the dead, and upheld the warrior code in their unique detached way.
Each clan equally contributes cats to the guardians. There are always six at a time, three senior Guardians and three apprentices. Should one of them die, the clan they were originally from must provide a replacement, so that no clan ever has a majority.
Of course, part of Guardian training includes purging any recruit of any clan preference and sentiment. This is replaced with a severe training regimen and bonding with the guardians who essentially become their family.
Their routine usually consists of three shifts, with two on each shift. A guard shift, a hunting/scavenging shift, and a rest shift. Of course in times of heightened danger, the Guardians will ask for the clans to provide them food while they spend as much of their time as possible on guard.
Skywatcher
Of all the clans, Waveclan is the most at mercy of the elements, and after one particular disaster where a hurricane nearly wiped out the entire clan, Waveclan decided to train a cat in watching and learning about the tides and weather, so that they may warn the clan in time that they may seek protection, or that they can give suggestions on where it is good to hunt and what prey might be out. They also have learned to tell the seasons based on the stars and migration patterns of birds.
Skywatchers also share some warrior duties, but beyond basic self-defense they do not participate in battle. Their knowledge and skills are too important. Unlike leaders or full medicine cats, they are allowed to have kits, so long as they can still fulfill their duties, which is not too difficult. In fact many times Skywatchers have had their kits succeed them, but this is not always the case.
Head Queen
Ferryclan is of course very large, and most likely to have many litters at once. As such they have a rather complicated camp system, and have evolved a specific rank which makes sure the camp is safe, warm, and well-stocked for the cats living there. They also ensure that kits are accounted for and educated, so that they dont do things that unsafe because they feel bored or neglected. They form an important part of the counsilers to the leader.
